    Canon Character Section:
    History: Ruby, Red

    Personality:
'Layered' is a word that one could use to describe Ruby. In order to get a feeling for who Ruby is, it is important to look at who Red is as well. They may be the same person, but honestly, they have two very different and distinct personalities. There is the Enchanted Forrest/Fairytale person named Red Riding Hood, and the cursed Storybrook version, a waitress named Ruby Lucas.

Red is young, naive, curious girl, with a kind heart and curious spirit. Her love for life and adventure is apparent, and almost too much to contain within the life that she leads. She feels very trapped and tamed by the constraints placed on her by her grandmother. She doesn't understand how one woman can be so strict. She is a young woman and she just wants to experience life to the fullest.

Red is a brave woman, that much is apparent. It's not everyone who would just go out to find and kill the wolf that was terrorizing her village, so she could be free to live her life to the fullest with her true love, Peter. She is very protective, especially of Peter, who she fully expects to spend the rest of her life with, not realizing that she is the one that he needs protection from. Thinking that Peter is the wolf, she chains him up to protect the people that she cares for, including himself.

Ruby is rightly devastated by the incident on the mountain. She cannot contain her grief, or forgive herself for killing Peter and all the Villagers. She is justifiably angry at Granny for lying to her, and keeping the fact that she was the Wolf. She hurt the people she loved the most because of a lie. Red places a very high commodity on the truth. She is terrified of hurt the people she is closest to, and that causes her to want to hide away forever. She is insecure, and very unsure during this time. In "Red Handed", it is Snow White who truly believed and accepted Red for who, and what she was. It was then that she started to believe in herself, and trust herself. It would take so much longer, however, for her to forgive herself.

Red eventually learns to control the wolf, and her change, through that she learns not to be afraid of the wolf, but rather embrace the creature, as it is a part of who she is. In "Child of the Moon", she learns from her mother and pack that it is okay to be different. She learns to be free and embrace the wolf that allows her to enjoy wolf's time, where she can frolic and run free. Red is forced to make a choice, her one true friend, or her pack. She chooses to save Snow and kill her mother, and the Charmings become her pack of sorts. She is happy to fight at their sides until the Queen curses the land.

Red becomes Ruby Lucas in Storybrooke, an argumentative, sassy, flirtatious, rebellious teenager-type person, even though she is far from a teenager. She wears heavy makeup, and tends to flirt with the customers. She dresses provocatively, and stays out way too late. She is constantly complaining about having to open the diner. She projects an I-don't-care-what-you-think persona, but in reality, Ruby is a rather unconfident person, who doesn't trust herself at all not to screw up her life in every way possible. She goes between doubting and confident quite often.

When Emma arrives, things begin to change for Ruby. She looks up to Emma, as a strong female influence. She begins helping her, using her senses even though she doesn't quite understand why. She begins to find a sense of purpose working for Emma, and suddenly has no desire to leave her family or Storybrooke. She gains confidence and is close to being Red again when Emma finally breaks the curse.

Ruby is now a combination of her Enchanted Forrest persona, Red, and her Storybrooke persona, Ruby. She is once again unsure, since it has been twenty-eight years since she went through Wolf's time. She is the first in line to help, and direct her friends, who are just as unsure as she is. She goes back to working with David and Mary Margaret, following their lead just like in the Enchanted Forest, and even goes so far as to defend David to the townspeople when they threaten to leave.

Ruby feels that she has a lot to make up for in regards to her past. She is quick to defend the people around her, and protect them, which is very much like Red. She is still unsure about her place in Storybrooke, which is a very Ruby trait, so in all, she struggles almost every day to keep fighting for what she believes is the right thing, even though she is still filled with guilt and doubt.

Ruby, even though she is still trying to find her place in this new land, is a fiercely true and loyal friend. She remains focused on that, even when old fears and doubts begin to creep in. She tends to bury it, and greet every day with a smile.

Ruby is not a stranger to suddenly finding herself in strange new places. She seemed to move between dangerous situations with relative ease, albeit with some trepidation mixed in. Teleios will be another new adventure for Ruby, and it is well known that Ruby loves adventure. She had gotten used to the wolf once again, since her memories were returned to him. She feels comfortable in her own skin so to speak. She is always afraid that the wolf will hurt someone, while she will be confused at first, she will eventually realize that it is for the best. Ruby adapts well to most situations, finding out there are many species will pique Ruby's interest, and she might actually enjoy getting to know more of her wolf counterparts, as she has never had the opportunity. She will attack living in Teleios, as she does everything else, with gusto.

    Powers/Abilities:
Ruby is a werewolf, who during Wolf's time makes a complete and total transformation from human to werewolf. There is nothing Hybrid about Ruby in wolf form.

When not in wolf form she has enhanced senses. Her sense of smell is strong. It is also dead on when she focuses it. She has enhanced strength and speed.

[Ruby had long since grown out of running away from things, and the people she cared about.]

I realize this might be asking too much, but do you think putting me in a strange place was a good thing to do?

[She looked around once again, clearly not recognizing anything looked back out again]

Adventure was always a dream. [Her eyes light up a bit at the thought of trying something new. ]

This is not Storybrooke, or the Enchanted Forrest, so where am I hmm? I really want to know. Just think of it as curiosity killing the cat, or in this case wolf.

[She sobers up then, her expression serious]

Can anyone tell me where my family is? [Even though she and Granny didn't always get a long, she still cared about what happened to her... to all of them]
You see, where I come from, family means everything, and I don't want to think about what my being here might do to them?

[She couldn't help but think of David, and what almost happened when Snow and Emma vanished]

Ruby sat in stunned silence for a long moment. It seemed to stretch on for an eternity, but in reality, it was probably only several seconds. That’s not what it felt like to Ruby, though; to her, it felt like an eternity. She thought have made her happy.

She now knew why she could do most of the things that she did to help Emma; that did make the excitement bubble up in her stomach. She wasn’t useless. She had skills, and purpose. She liked the idea of having a goal a great deal.

As the memories flooded back, a sick feeling began to form in the ball of her stomach. She wanted so much for what she was remembering to not be true. She wanted Peter to be alive and well. If she walked out into the street, she wanted to see his smiling face with his cute little dimples.

The sick feeling gave way to tears as she remembered all the damage she did to the people she loved, and part of her wondered if it would be better if she didn’t remember anything at all. Perhaps Regina had it right? Was she happier not knowing about her life before Storybrooke?

In the end she decided that no, it wasn’t. All of those feelings of déjà vu she felt when she was hunting for Emma suddenly made sense; she couldn’t help but grin at the thought as she looked around. This place really wasn’t so bad, was it? Now that she remembered everything, and could fill in the gaps and not drive herself insane with worry and doubt, she was actually happy to learn the truth.

It made her want to reach her family faster someone, and as she moved to leave the Diner, she paused, wondering what her future held for her.
